Fat People Can't Cook

I realized that one of the reasons that I am fat is because I can't cook. So I have been teaching myself to cook as part of my new healthy lifestyle and weight loss program. I've lost 10.5 kg (23lbs) in just over two months. I've achieved this by cutting a lot of Hi-Gi carbs from my diet.

I was poisoning myself — the sugar in my blood was killing me

About two months ago I had a blood test and discovered that I had Type 2 diabetes. The doctor explained that Type 2 is where you have lazy insulin. Your body is still producing insulin, but it is not working hard enough to push the sugar from your bloodstream into the cells where it is needed - and where it can be burned up.

Thanks to my lazy insulin the sugar was staying in my bloodstream and rotting me from the inside, in much the same way that your teeth rot if you eat a lot of sugar and don't brush them. This was having a catastrophic effect on my mood, I was deeply depressed, and already there were signs of circulation problems like tingling in my feet and toes. The doctor explained that the average life expectancy for a diabetic is about 20 years, and sadly, they are not a good 20 years. The circulation issues get worse; eventually many diabetics suffer amputations, blindness, kidney failure, heart disease, erectile dysfunction and finally, an early death.

I felt knocked down. I had always considered myself to be relatively healthy and expected other people to suffer from this type of thing: not me. The doctor explained that there was a ray of hope; I needed to lose weight. With every 3kg that I lost, I would sharpen my insulin's effectiveness by 25%. If I could lose enough weight then I should be able to return my blood sugar to normal levels and reverse the Type 2 diabetes. That was it. I no longer had a choice. I had to lose weight.
